About The College of Education

The College of Education (COE) can be considered the cornerstone college of Florida A&M University.

The primary mission of the COE is to produce exemplary professionals who will serve in educational institutions and who are informed, proactive, competent, and reflective practitioners. The college administers preservice and inservice professional education and graduate programs encompassed within the following four undergraduate and graduate degree granting departments:

I am excited to serve as interim dean for the first established college at FAMU and welcome you to embark upon this journey with our College.

The College of Education (COE) at Florida A&M University (FAMU) is committed to providing the community-at-large, and our stakeholders with data and information relevant to our performance.

Opportunities In The COE

The COE provides the relevant curriculum for elementary, secondary, and graduate education programs.

The COE: (1) assumes leadership for the selection, guidance and professional preparation of teacher educators and practitioners who will serve in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools, as well as other related agencies of Florida and the nation; and (2) provides a substantial foundation for advanced study as students choose to extend their educational preparation and pursuits. This is accomplished through a foundation of general education, a planned sequence in professional education, and rigorous graduate programs providing excellent preparation for professional pursuits, graduate study, and post-graduate work.

STRIKE 2.0 Academic Year Vision Plan for the College of Education:

S | STRATEGIC INITIATIVES -The FAMU COE will align closely with the university vision and mission to implement programs designed to increase academic achievement across undergraduate and graduate programs. Increase the teacher pipeline by partnering with our local districts and those across the state.

T | TRUST - The FAMU COE will build trust and offer transparency to our internal campus community and external school and community partners. We will build programs and engage others with truthful and meaningful practices.

R | RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION - The FAMU COE will tackle the national and state teacher shortage crisis and implement new strategies to recruit and retain teacher education majors. We will grow our graduate programs and be proactive in identifying the needs and gaps in state certification and test achievement. We will create pathways for gains from our education candidates and follow them into successful careers.

I | INNOVATION AND RESEARCH - The FAMU COE will create innovative and immersive learning experiences for our learners while promoting a solid research agenda and providing rich research expertise. We will provide rich teaching and learning with immersive technology for undergraduate and graduate programs.

K | K-20 SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS - The FAMU COE will work closely as a key partner with FAMU DRS and surrounding county schools to identify the needs of the educational community and utilize our faculty, staff, and students to meet those needs.

E | ENGAGEMENT IN THE COMMUNITY, THE STATE, AND THE NATION - The FAMU COE will increase the number of privately funded scholarships to support our students and faculty by promoting our programs and creating forums for exposure and visibility.

Recruitment and Retention

The College of Education’s Strategic Recruitment Plan represents a collaborative effort among P-20 education and community-based stakeholders with vested interest in the recruitment and retention of high-quality and diverse Education majors.
